Coats. The visual impact of the wall. Easy to change, easy to adapt to different circumstances. The thing behind the coat remains what it was: strong and protecting, excluding and stubborn. Coats to the side facing possible strangers are usually less pleasant to watch than the one on the private side.
Limit #13 Clothes Make People, Coats Make Walls
Sometimes this reminds me of people, with attitudes being just coats covering their soul. Most often you see just what you dare to see -- a pleasant smile, a mean laugh, a prohibiting gesture: it's just on the surface, it's this person's coat to protect his or her from what may harm the soul and what this person thinks would make her imperfections look digestible to others. It's just way easier to look behind the coatings of walls, than behind people's self assigned coatings.
